A central figure of the Celtic Revival, Yeats developed a poetry rich in symbols, mythic references, and esoteric imagery. He sought in tradition and the supernatural the keys to understanding modern man. Founder of the Abbey Theatre, he was also a pivotal dramatist for Irish theatre.
